Do you know the difference between cables 3+2 and 4+1?

03-07-2024

Wires and cables are divided into single-core and multi-core types. So, 3+2 core and 4+1 core both look like 5 cores. Is there any difference between them? A wire and cable manufacturer with 25 years of production experience will answer your questions.

1. The difference between wires and cables

Wires are composed of one or more soft conductors, wrapped in a soft sheath; cables are composed of one or more insulated conductors, wrapped in a tough outer layer of metal or rubber.

    2. The 3+2 and 4+1 on the wires indicate the number of cores in a cable. A cable contains 2 or 3, 3+2, 4+1, or 5 wires insulated from each other, which are called 2-core or 3-core, 3+2 core, 4+1 core, or 5-core wires respectively.

3. Let's take the power cable YJV as an example. The 3 in the YJV 3+2 core 3+2 cable means that the diameters of the three phase lines (L1, L2, L3 phase lines, which have the largest diameters) are the same, and the 2 is the neutral line and the PE line. One line is used to connect the neutral line (N neutral line, which has a smaller diameter than L1, L2, L3), and one line is used to connect the ground line (PE grounding protection line, which has a smaller diameter than L1, L2, L3). The 4 in the YJV 4+1 core and 4+1 cable means that the diameters of the three phase lines and the neutral line are the same, and the 1 is the PE grounding line, which has a single diameter; 4+1 means that a cable consists of 4 lines, one of which is used to connect the live line (L1 phase line), one is used to connect the neutral line (N neutral line), and one is used to connect the ground line (PE grounding protection line).
